Squeeze The Day

July 19, 2016

If anyone knows me on a more personal level, they are aware of my complete obsession with lemons. Ever since the beginning of my health journey, I’ve used lemons every day. For the majority of the time, I like to put lemon in a hot cup of water in the morning as a natural detox for my body, focusing on my liver. I also use lemon when making raw juices as well as a seasoning to add flavor to my food!

Lemons make me happy, they are bright, yellow, zesty, and delicious! They are a wonderful, alkaline ingredient that I encourage all of you add to your diet. I am so excited about this post because, interestingly enough, lemons are what keep me energized! They are the root of my personality. I know that sounds ballistic, but it’s true.

Like I said before, I try to drink a hot lemon water every morning. Doing this helps to naturally detox my body, mainly the liver. I also put lemon in my iced water throughout the day, but the hot lemon water is key to good health!

I like to sip on this before drinking my smoothie or eating my breakfast! (My dog Henri likes to join, too!)

The purpose of this post is to try and motivate you to find something that encourages a healthy lifestyle! I believe the most important aspect of living healthy is having fun and finding ways to inspire yourself to stay clean! The first thing I did to inspire my health was scan my Pinterest feed. Every now and then, I’d see a delicoius and healthy recipe for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I began taking this recipes into mind and tried making my own. Pinterest is the perfect place to seek inspiration!

In the beginning, I tried extremely hard to eat perfectly. I created this image in my head that if I don’t eat healthy, something bad would happen. As my health process has matured, I’ve realized that eating healthy is a choice. I was fine before and I’m fine now and that is is perfectly fine to eat something uneahtlhy once in a while. It’s a matter of how I’m truly feeling on the inside. My mood, personality, overall health.

After scrolling through Pinterest a couple dozen times, I found a few recipes that stuck with me; avocado toast, green smoothies, raw juices, and delicious salads! All of these have something in common: vegetables! I try to eat a diet that consists of veggies, fruits, and true protein (dark green vegetables). I’ve backed off on meat because I don’t like the way it makes me feel, but occasionally I will eat some chicken or fish for lunch.

Throughout the process of designing all of these recipes, I created a routine. To this day, I’ve stuck to a similar eating regimen. For breakfast I love to consume good proteins and fruits! I make a smoothie, literally every morning. I try to mix the recipes up so that I don’t get sick of one taste. I have 3 different smoothies I like to make. I like to add a chia and hemp seed mix on top of the smoothie. I do not blend it because it will lose it’s nutritional value, so I eat it off of the top of my smoothie and it’s delicious.

1 Green Smoothie | I like to mix avocado, spinach (green mix), hemp protein, banana, coconut oil, coconut milk, coconut water, and pineapple!

2 Fruity Smoothie | This is my least popular smoothie, but I love the mix all kinds of berries; strawberries, rasberries, blueberries, blackberries, with some coconut water! You can really have some fun making this smoothie and it always lookes pretty after making it!

3 Chocolate & Peanut Butter | I LOVE this smoothie recipe! I do not make this that often because it doesn’t have as much protein as the green smoothie, but it’s a great snack time smoothie! I blend almonds, coconut milk, coconut water, banana, coconut oil, dates, cinnoman, chocolate protein powder and peanut butter powder! This is perfect for those who don’t care for fruity or green smoothies!

When it comes to lunch, I like to enjoy a fresh feeling food like salads, wraps, anything with veggies! This is also the time of day I like to eat some chicken or fish, if I am going to have some. I don’t like to eat meat or fish at night because it is pretty difficult to digest if you don’t mix it with the right ingredients.

For dinner, I like to enjoy a light meal with veggies, carbs, or salads! If I am going to have some spaghetti, I will mix in veggies like spinach or brussel sprouts to help digest the bad carbs. I love to eat a light meal to reduce discomfort whilst sleeping.

The most important lesson through all of this is to not judge yourself. It is totally okay to have some sweets or unhealthy food! You won’t die. Go with the 80/20 rule. Eighty percent of the time, eat healthy, and the other twenty percent, have some fun!

All in all, I want you to find your inspiration for your lifestyle. That being, a way to workout, eat healthy, or stay more mindful.

I hope all of you find your “lemon”.

Haley 🙂
